Argentina and Sampdoria goalkeeper Sergio Romero’s wage demands scuppered Manchester United and Manchester City moves.
According to Calciomercato.com, the shot-stopper was in advanced negotiations for a deadline day transfer to Old Trafford.
However, he refused to lower his current wages and Manchester United were unwilling to pay that much for an understudy to David De Gea.
Tuttomercatoweb insist Romero had also been in negotiations with Manchester City, but failed to agree personal terms.
Romero excelled at the World Cup, where he took Argentina to the Final with penalty shoot-out heroics, but has no place at Sampdoria.
The club has already brought in Emiliano Viviano as their first choice.
Romero spent last season on loan at Monaco.
