Antonio Conte wants a “humble, proud and gritty” Italy, because “after Brazil we are the most important football nation in the world.”
The new Nazionale Coach held his first training session today ahead of a friendly against Holland and Euro 2016 qualifier with Norway.
“We must experience this with enthusiasm and joy, bringing Italy back to where they deserve, because after Brazil we are the most important football nation in the world,” said Conte in a Press conference.
The Azzurri have won the World Cup four times, now on a par with Germany, while Brazil have lifted the trophy on five occasions.
“My Nazionale must be humble, proud and gritty. We have to win back the affection of the people. In Bari they have already sold 34,000 tickets for the friendly with Holland and it fills me with pride to see that response.”
The FIGC announced soon after that the ticket sales at the Stadio San Nicola had risen to 37,000.
“This is a challenge with myself and I am convinced that I can help the lads understand concepts that it’s easier to transmit when you can work with players every day.”
