The 19-year-old had been linked with the Portuguese giants earlier in the summer, but the Rossoneri reported rejected their advances, with the believed intention of keeping him in their first team squad for 2014-15.

However, on from emerging rumours this afternoon of negotiations once more between the clubs, Sky Sport Italia are reporting a deal has been very quickly agreed.

It is being reported that Milan have agreed to the outright sale of Cristante, with Benfica ready to pay a fee of €6m. The player is expected to fly out to Portugal to undergo a medical and complete formalities.

Cristante did feature heavily under Pippo Inzaghi in pre-season, but the club have since arranged a deal to sign Chelsea’s Marco van Ginkel on a season-long loan.
