Avellino have their own Luis Suarez situation after Gianmario Comi bit a Bari player during a Coppa Italia tie.

In last night’s Third Round game, Bari had taken the lead on home turf, but lost 2-1 late on.

Giuseppe De Luca was bitten on the arm by Comi, but the incident was not seen by the referee and his furious reaction got him sent off.

“I was wrong to react and apologise to everyone for having left the team down to 10 men,” De Luca told the official Bari website.

“I never would’ve expected to be bitten by an opponent. Some violent tackles are part of the sport, but vile and cowardly actions like biting or spitting must not be tolerated.”

Video evidence will now be used against Avellino’s 22-year-old striker Comi, who could face a lengthy ban.

To add insult to injury, moments after the red card it was Comi who scored Avellino’s equaliser.
