Miguel Angel Britos admits left-back “is not my role, but I’ll give my all if I have to play there” for Napoli.
The defender was a surprise pick in tonight’s Champions League play-off, a 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao.
“It is not my natural role, but the Coach asked me to help out there and I am available,” Britos told Sky Sport Italia.
“I want to play and I’ll give my all if I have to play there all season, though clearly I am not a top level left-back.”
The Iker Muniain goal came down his channel and Britos took responsibility.
“I was too worried about the flank and should’ve gone tighter on him. It was my mistake.”
The 1-1 draw means Napoli need to score in Bilbao to have any hope of progressing.
“The second leg will be a very difficult game, but not impossible. Our first half wasn’t great today, even if we created some good chances. We were more aggressive after the break and played better.
“As well as Gonzalo Higuain’s goal, we had other good scoring opportunities.”
