Claudio Lotito has confirmed Lazio are closing in on a deal for Santiago Gentiletti, with reports of a four-year deal already in place.

The Aquile are in the market for another centre-back following Stefan de Vrij’s capture and according to their President are closing in on the 29-year-old.

“He is strong, quick and left-sided, whilst he has just won the Libertadores, which is the South American Champions League,” Lotito has told reporters this week.

“Is it completely closed? Not yet, we will see in the coming days. Anyway, he is a player who Pioli has chosen, and if our Coach likes him then we’re good.”

The Corriere dello Sport report that a four-year contract has been provisionally agreed with Gentiletti and that it will pay out a salary of €600,000.

Expectation is that the defender will fly out to Italy shortly to complete formalities on the deal, with the club apparently having agreed to pay San Lorenzo €2.5m for the transfer.

Reports meanwhile also suggest that Gentiletti’s potential capture does not rule out moves elsewhere, including with Partizan Belgrade for Vojislav Stankovic.
