Roma goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis confirms “the Scudetto is our primary objective” and he will be fit for the start of the season.

The shot-stopper has not played since May after undergoing surgery to correct a long-standing elbow problem.

“I will be back soon and be at the disposal of the Coach on August 30, save for any unexpected developments,” he told Roma Channel.

“We are a well-assorted squad with a strong structure between youth and experience. This is true in every area of the team, from the goal to attack.

“All this optimism around Roma is thanks to the exceptional work did last season, which has continued over the summer, but must never forget hard slog and humility.

“We cannot afford to think we are stronger than we really are.”

The Giallorossi are back in the Champions League, so it could be a problem after two years of training for one game per week.

“The Scudetto is our primary objective. We need to improve and if we do better than the 85 points we got last season, then we’ve won the title…

“The Champions League and Coppa Italia are targets, we want to get past the group stage in Europe, but I can only be clearer once we see who we will be up against.”

De Sanctis joined teammate Daniele De Rossi in criticising FIGC Presidential candidate Carlo Tavecchio.

“The situation is very clear. As Renzo Ulivieri said, he is inadequate because his history means he cannot take on certain roles. We cannot allow change to pass through figures like this.

“With all due respect for Tavecchio and what he did in the amateur league, we need something different and we identified that in Demetrio Albertini.

“I hope before the August 11 election those who are with Tavecchio change their minds.”
