Chievo fell to a 3-1 friendly defeat against Olympique Marseille with Riccardo Meggiorini sent off.

The Flying Donkeys continued their pre-season European tour and, after losing 1-0 to Borussia Dortmund, suffered a heavy result this evening.

Florian Thauvin put OM ahead with a left-footed screamer and Chievo went down to 10 men before half-time thanks to Meggiorini’s two bookable offences in quick succession.

Nicolas N’Koulou doubled the French lead by nodding in a Thauvin corner, but Eugenio Corini’s side refused to give in and Simone Bentivoglio grabbed a consolation strike.

Andre-Pierre Gignac completed the rout late on by making the most of an Andrea Seculin error in the pouring rain.

This was Marseille’s final pre-season test, so they were already in good shape.
