FIGC presidential candidate Demetrio Albertini has claimed that Italian football needs to be ‘rejuvenated’.

The former Milan midfielder is up against Carlo Tavecchio to replace Giancarlo Abete as the leader of the Football Federation.

And the 42-year-old, who could be voted in after Tavecchio’s racist gaffe at the weekend, has insisted that the game on the peninsula is in need of a change.

“Tavecchio has a lot of voters,” he answered during a Twitter Q&A.

“Football is a democracy. We are the second oldest championship in Europe, and we need some rejuvenation.

“We need to change the governance of the game. And I hope to be in a position to do so.

“And if I am, I will be personally accountable from Euro 2020.”
