Palermo chief Maurizio Zamparini thinks “the FIGC needs someone like me” and “UEFA is a mess.”

The famously outspoken President of the Sicilian club spoke to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli about backing Federation candidate Carlo Tavecchio despite racist comments.

“In this country we are incapable of making important decisions, as neither Demetrio Albertini nor Tavecchio are suitable to revitalise our football,” said Zamparini.

“The FIGC need someone like me, but I won’t step forward as a candidate. UEFA also needs to be revitalised, as right now it’s a mess.”

When asked who he would appoint as Italy Coach if made President of the FIGC, Zamparini pointed to his ex-Palermo boss Francesco Guidolin.

“He’d do well, as he is a well-prepared and intelligent tactician. Beppe Iachini is the best Coach I’ve ever worked with. Many feel they are professors and don’t want to accept advice, which is why they make mistakes.

“Palermo are a team of fighters and we will have a great season. It’s true we don’t have any top players, but we can count on quality youngsters.”

These include Uruguay international striker Abel Hernandez.

“He will have to sweat for his place in the starting XI, just like everyone else. It’s not guaranteed for anyone.”
