Cagliari sensationally slammed the door on Lazio and announced Davide Astori signed on for another three years.
The Italy international defender had been in advanced negotiations with the Biancocelesti, while he was also of interest to Milan, Juventus and Southampton.
“We told Lazio our lowest price was €7m, firm and immovable,” Cagliari President Tommaso Giulini told Sardegna Sport.
“Lazio, via a phone call from President Claudio Lotito to our director of sport Francesco Marroccu, let us know he was not interested at those figures and we should consider ourselves free to move forward.
“As far as I am concerned, the negotiations are closed.”
Director of sport Marroccu added another chapter to the story when he revealed Astori would not be going anywhere.
“Astori has renewed his contract for three years.”
The defender’s deal had been set to expire in June 2015, but he is now tied to the Sardinian club until 2018.
“I have been here for six years, I grew and matured in Sardinia,” said Astori in a Press conference.
“I was eager to show my recognition towards Cagliari. I thank President Giulini, as it was a decision we made together.”
