Stefano Okaka has revealed that his goal this season is to play well enough to earn an Italy call-up.

The 24-year-old striker has played for the Azzurri at Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 levels, but the goalscorer has admitted that he has to fire for Sampdoria first.

“The national team is definitely a goal of mine,” he told Corriere Mercantile. “But first I have to do well every day here.

“I think there’s definitely the chance for me to succeed at Samp though.

“The club has confidence in me. In a difficult moment they have stood by me and given me the opportunity to show my worth.”

The former Roma man then commented on his relationship with Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic.

“The boss is as determined as ever. We have the experience of last season and know we’re going to be better.

“He’s a perfectionist and imparts the knowledge he’s gain from playing at the highest level to us.”
