Lazio President Claudio Lotito complimented Nicola Rizzoli for the World Cup Final, but took a dig at Roma too.
Rizzoli is only the third Italian referee to be given the honour of officiating the World Cup Final and will take charge of Germany-Argentina on Sunday night.
“It is an Italian success,” Lotito told reporters. “In a World Cup that saw our team go out badly in the early stages, Italy still manage to go all the way.
“I send Rizzoli my most sincere congratulations, as his nomination represents an important international recognition for our football at the Italian Referees’ Association.
“It is important to note that, despite the habitual weekends people spend recriminating about supposed refereeing errors.
“That has never been the Lazio style and we are a different club in Rome because of it.”
