Sportmediaset have pointed out a curious statistical anomaly – in both previous cases, Italy have gone on to win the next World Cup.
The Azzurri lifted the trophy in 1982 and again in 2006.
If the superstition were to continue, then Italy would win the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
