‘Quagliarella must hurry, or…’

Urbano Cairo is happy with Torino’s transfer work so far and warns Fabio Quagliarella and Juventus to hurry in negotiations, or they’ll look elsewhere.

Toro, whose season starts earliest with Europa League preliminary round action, have been seen as one of the clubs in talks with the forward, as he is expected to leave the Bianconeri this summer.

Whilst confirming that they are interested, the Granata’s President has warned not for long.

“Quagliarella is a great player, and we need to close in the next short period of time,” Cairo has told reporters this week.

“There are other quality opportunities to Quagliarella. We are looking to get a striker who is superior.

“Juventus must hurry if they want to sell him, because in a few days, we will close with one of the alternatives.

“90 per cent of the squad is complete. And this is another big step forward compared to the past.

“The 10 per cent that is missing? We are looking for a centre-back who can alternate with Moretti, and a striker.

“We have the honour of playing in the Europa League, we want to face that as protagonists. That’s why the forward will be top level.

“A champion? Torino, who earn a 10th of what the major European clubs do, cannot take from one of those teams a champion. But it will be an important player for Ventura.”

Cairo reflected on his satisfaction at the purchases brought in so far.

“For good luck, I will not say where this Torino can go. But I emphasise the purchases - Molinaro, here after a great championship, Jansson, Nocerino, who is a big capture.

“And then Sanchez Mino, who I speak very well of, and even Perez, taken from Atletico Madrid.

“And the redemption of Maksimovic, for a substantial figure, then Barreto and Larrondo, the confirmation of El Kaddouri.

“Yes, we have done a good job. It is still not finished.”
