FIFA have opted to uphold the four-month worldwide ban handed to Luis Suarez for biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini.

Both the player himself and the Uruguayan Football Association appealed against the decision, which was made after the player bit the Azzurri defender during the World Cup match between the countries last month.

In addition to four months on the sidelines, the 27-year-old will also remain banned from participating in Uruguay’s next nine matches.

However, the matter is not entirely closed as the possibility for an appeal to the Court of Arbitration of Sport is still open, should either Suarez or the Uruguayan FA choose to take it.
