Roma President James Pallotta has called for ‘comprehensive reform’ in Italian football, particularly within the game’s governing bodies.
There has been much soul searching and debate going on within calcio in recent times, following Italy’s early exit from this summer’s World Cup and an acceptance that Serie A is lagging behind other major European Leagues in terms of stadia, finance and infrastructure.
National Coach Cesare Prandelli and FIGC President Giancarlo Abete have both recently resigned, leaving the future of Italian football at a crossroads.
“AS Roma favours comprehensive reform to advance the future of Italian football,” began Pallotta in a statement on Roma’s official website.
“Most importantly, a meaningful change in our governance and leadership which most recently have led to a loss of credibility domestically and internationally.
“It is clear that we need new and effective leadership independent and stronger than the current regime which has proved incapable of finding solutions.”
