It is reported that Alberto Gilardino has agreed personal terms with Guangzhou Evergrande and will join the Chinese club.
According to transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio, the 32-year-old’s move from Genoa is now a formality, with only the arrival of official documentation needed before the deal is completed.
It was said at the weekend that a fee for the forward, rumoured to be around €5m, had already been agreed but that the transfer hinged on whether the player wished to move to the Far East.
Now, it would seem that he has indeed decided to link up with compatriot Marcello Lippi, who is Coach of the Chinese Super League champions. The news comes after the club apparently agreed to accept his wage demands.
