Brazil have formally lodged an appeal to have Thiago Silva’s yellow card and suspension overturned.

The PSG defender was booked for blocking Colombia goalkeeper David Ospina kicking the ball into play during the quarter-final.

As it was his second yellow card of the competition, an automatic one-match ban was activated.

The Brazilian Federation have now formally appealed against the decision and FIFA confirmed it was “being analysed.”

Thiago Silva is their captain and will be suspended for Tuesday’s World Cup semi-final against Germany.

In this World Cup, all previous bookings are wiped out from the semi-final onwards, so as to avoid cards early in the competition leading to suspension in the Final.
