Argentina international defender Jose Maria Basanta confirmed he’s in “negotiations” for a move to Fiorentina.
The reports emerged that a deal was practically done with the Monterrey centre-back, who is currently at the World Cup with Argentina.
The 30-year-old fuelled those rumours by retweeting several messages from Fiorentina fans who were welcoming him to the club.
“I want to clarify that nothing is yet confirmed for my move to Fiorentina, but I thank people for their support,” wrote Basanta in Italian and then Spanish on his Twitter account.
“I have a contract until 2015 with Monterrey, but am in negotiations over the idea of moving to Europe and becoming part of the Italian club Fiorentina.”
