Mario Gomez says he will effectively be like a new signing for Fiorentina when the Viola begin the new season.
The German forward arrived at the Artemio Franchi last summer, but his first year in Italy was ravaged by injuries which also cost him a place at this summer’s World Cup.
Speaking to Stern.de, the former Bayern Munich man admits he is disappointed by the way the last 12 months have turned out but revealed his determination to help his club achieve their aims next term.
“What does success mean? It means achieving your targets,” Gomez said. “In spite of the disappointment I wouldn’t say missing out on the World Cup squad was a failure.
“You can’t predict certain things. Now, my target is to get into top form for the start of next season in order to help my club reach our targets.
“In effect, I am a new signing for Fiorentina.”
