Massimiliano Allegri gave Mario Balotelli advice on how to play as lone striker for Italy against England.

SuperMario is expected to start with support from Claudio Marchisio, Antonio Candreva, Marco Verratti and Andrea Pirlo in tonight’s World Cup opener.

“He needs to be a centre-forward and playing on his own up there it’ll be easier for him,” ex-Milan Coach Allegri told Sky Sport Italia.

“He won’t need to come back deep in order to look for the ball, because behind him will be players who are very good at providing assists.”

Allegri also commented on the extraordinary 5-1 Dutch victory over reigning World and European champions Spain.

“A defeat like this is shocking and the next game with Chile will be decisive for Spain. I saw a good Spain for 45 minutes, but Louis Van Gaal did well to limit the Spanish passing and earn a great win.”
