It is reported in Spain that Javier Mascherano has opted to remain with Barcelona and end speculation of a move to Napoli.
The Argentine has been strongly linked with a transfer to the Partenopei in recent months, having worked with Azzurri Coach Rafa Benitez while both men were at Liverpool.
He was also deemed as surplus to requirements by the Catalan giants during the closing stages of the season, with a move away seeming a formality.
However, as of the arrival of new Coach Luis Enrique at Camp Nou the situation has changed. The new boss sees the midfielder as part of his plans and, following talks, it is said Mascherano has now agreed to extend his stay in Spain until 2018.
