Former Fiorentina midfielder Antonio Di Gennaro doesn’t know what more Giuseppe Rossi had to do to make Italy’s World Cup squad.

The Viola goalscorer was left out of the Azzurri’s 23-man party that will go to the tournament in Brazil this summer.

The former Villarreal man has suffered a series of injuries in 2013/14, but seemed to impress in the friendly with Republic of Ireland last Saturday.

However, Coach Cesare Prandelli opted to leave the 27-year-old at home – a decision that has shocked Di Gennaro.

“I think Prandelli decided this a long time ago,” he told Lady Radio. “If Pepito wore a Juve or Milan shirt, I think he’d be going to Brazil.

“The match against Ireland doesn’t lie. Insigne just didn’t do the same as Rossi on a physical or technical level.

“Rossi has done everything possible to go to the World Cup. I don’t understand what more he could have done.”
