England’s Jack Wilshere has stressed the importance for both the Three Lions and Italy to get off to a good start at the World Cup.

The two teams lock horns in what will be both sides’ opening match of the tournament on June 14, with Uruguay and Costa Rica providing their other Group D opposition.

Speaking to the media, the Arsenal midfielder also expressed his delight to be going to Brazil with Roy Hodgson’s team.

“Going to Brazil is a great opportunity and I hope I can give a contribution,” Wilshere is quoted as saying by Sky Sport.

“My happiness is even greater given that I’ve played for the national team so few times.

“Italy are a great team. It will be important for both us and them to get off to a good start, so we need to put all the energy possible into beating the Azzurri.”
