Diego Maradona says compatriot Gonzalo Higuain will not be able to win the Scudetto for Napoli by himself.

The Argentine striker enjoyed an excellent debut season at San Paolo, scoring 17 goals in 32 Serie A appearances for the Azzurri.

However, speaking to Il Mattino Maradona stated his belief that despite the 26-year-old’s goalscoring prowess, there is still something missing from making the Partenopei a title winning team.

“Higuain mustn’t just win the Scudetto with Napoli,” former Argentina Coach Maradona said. “With his goals, he should be helping Argentina to win the World Cup too.

“In 2010 I wanted to do that in South Africa, I put a lot of faith in his gifts as a striker. I watched him grow and become a champion. When he is in form he makes the difference. He can become Napoli’s main man.

“Higuain on his own will not be enough to win the Scudetto, there is still something missing. De Laurentiis needs to bring in someone else in the market.”

Napoli icon Maradona also commented on potential plans to make him an ambassador for the region.

“I am already an ambassador for Napoli. The local municipality, the region and the commercial office have asked me to become an ambassador for Neapolitan sporting passion and tourism throughout the world. We’ll see what we can do.”
