“There is neither an ‘addio’ nor an ‘arrivederci’,” Mascherano is quoted as saying this week.
“At the right time we will talk about everything, and that time has not yet come. I must think only of the national team.”
The Gazzetta dello Sport report that Benitez continues to press that Napoli prioritise signing Mascherano and it is seen as something that Aurelio De Laurentiis is responding to.
The Corriere dello Sport, meanwhile, report that the 29-year-old’s agent, Walter Tamer, will fly out to Barcelona shortly to meet with Coach Luis Enrique and sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta to discuss their intentions with Mascherano.
