Vincenzo Montella is enthusiastic about continuing his Fiorentina adventure and hopes Juan Cuadrado can stay too.

“Our objective is not to lose our identity, our ideas of football and our philosophy of sport, as the people proved they appreciated us even in defeat,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“The club improved its revenue and this is also thanks to the group of players. I feel well-respected here by the fans and above all the club. If that weren’t the case, then I would be capable of leaving mid-contract, but here I feel respected.

“Torino had a great campaign and they deserve compliments, as do Verona and Parma, as they made the fight for Europe more competitive.”

Montella had said he would remain only if there were significant improvements to the squad.

“The stronger a club is, the more likely good players will arrive, but we have to deal with sides who earn three or four times our revenue.

“I think the club worked very well on the transfer market to sign quality players. It’s tough, but we have specialists in the field.”

On Friday Fiorentina President Mario Cognini said Montella was “100 per cent staying” in Florence.

“I am staying because the President knows how I feel. It isn’t exclusively his choice, but perhaps more mine,” explained Montella.

The transfer strategy will also depend on Cuadrado, as the Colombian is still co-owned with Udinese and attracted €30m offers from Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

“I think Cuadrado is an important player and he can still improve. As a Coach, I hope to continue working with him.”
