“I have informed President Giancarlo Abete some time ago,” Albertini told news agency Ansa.

“I will be in Brazil as head of the Italy delegation, then I’ll leave every post within the FIGC.

“These were rich and intense years of growth by Abete’s side and I have great respect for him, but it’s time for me to turn over a new leaf.”

It has already been reported Albertini has a job lined up at his old club Milan.
