One of the Napoli fans shot in the hours preceding the Coppa Italia final on Saturday has now been arrested himself, it has emerged.

Ciro Esposito, 29, underwent emergency surgery after being shot by Roma ultra Daniele De Santis and was yesterday said to be in a critical but stable condition.

However, the fall-out continues as Italian police have now charged Esposito with being involved in the fighting and brawling that preceded the shooting.

“I have only just found out that my son has been put under arrest while still in hospital,” Esposito’s mother Antonella Leardi told Il Mattino.

“It horrifies me to think the police are treating him like a criminal. I thought that all the police were there to protect him but obviously not.

“If anyone has any generosity I hope they’ll send him a lawyer. My son needs someone who can defend him.”
