Inter Coach Walter Mazzarri sees similarities between his tenure at Napoli and his current Nerazzurri reign.

Ahead of tomorrow’s home match with the Partenopei, the tactician is expecting a difficult game against his former side but has only fond memories of his time at San Paolo.

The San Siro side currently occupy fifth place in Serie A and seem set to secure a place in next year’s Europa League, but Mazzarri says his side have no set targets for the remainder of the season.

“Tomorrow will be a difficult game,” Mazzarri said at his pre-match Press conference. “We need to look to play a great match and then see where we are at the end.

“Anything could happen but I prefer to only think about my team. It’s been a season in which we’ve always had to correct something.

“We need to improve but we know this is a season of transition. We need to improve our concentration until the end of the season.

“I have no problem at all with De Laurentiis. I was happy at Napoli and you cannot just take away the fact that we spent four great years together.

“My situations at Napoli and Inter are similar, although at Napoli I arrived as part of the plan whereas here I arrived while a change of ownership was going on.

“But they have definitely both been exciting projects. Here it’s good to keep everyone united in spite of the ‘storm’ that is ongoing.

“My experience at Napoli was important for me.

“We want to get as much as we can out of the remaining matches. We have had a leap in quality recently which will allow us to do better over the coming seasons.

“We want to finish as high as we can for the fans. We haven’t been consistent and we have had some strange and negative results.

“Tomorrow will be another important examination in terms of my thoughts for the future. I need to see the attitude of some of my players when playing a big club.

“We want to do all we can to reach the highest number of points possible. We have no precise goals.

“I am pleased the players say we could be doing better and that they are talking about it so openly. That shows they are beginning to understand my mentality.

“I evaluate my team every week. There are still four important matches to go that will help me to clarify things. All of that will remain within the club however.

“During my time at Napoli we oversaw an evolution of the team. I have the experience to plan for the future in the best way possible.”

The tactician then answered questions on some of his players, including Mauro Icardi.

“I think D’Ambrosio has played well. He can improve defensively and he knows that.

“I still need to assess Jonathan, though he has been a little worried about the injury he has had. I still need to decide.

“Icardi? I want to be clear. I’m not talking about the transfer market and we are still not thinking about next year. The club will decide which path to follow.”
