Slovakia national team Coach Jan Kozak has backed Marek Hamsik to come through his difficult spell at Napoli.

The midfielder has struggled for form since returning from a lengthy injury lay-off and has been speculated as unhappy at the San Paolo.

For his Coach at international level, though, there is confidence that the player will come through this period.

“There are times like this that are less good in football. Something similar happened with our captain Martin Skrtel last season [at Liverpool],” Kozak told Il Mattino this week.

“At Napoli there is a new Coach, there are some new players, and let’s not forget that Marek has also had some physical problems.

“He is an absolute professional and is connected to Napoli, so I am sure he will overcome this period.

“He has already achieved so much success in the game, but he also has the potential to grow and improve.

“He has an excellent first touch of the ball, for example. He is 26 and has improved with the ball – his behaviour is professional and he is an example to follow.”
