Jaap Stam has today revealed that he has turned down the chance to become Gus Hiddink’s Holland assistant after this summer’s World Cup.
The 41-year-old former Milan player is currently performing the same role at Ajax and stressed his desire to one day become a Coach.
“I spoke to Hiddink and the Football Federation about a possible role as assistant,” Stam told KNVB.nl.
“It could be a great opportunity but I want to concentrate on work on the pitch.
“For this reason I decided to take a step forward and look for a club who will allow me to do that.
“One day I want to realise my ambition and become a coach.”
