Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain has insisted that he ‘always’ had the confidence of Coach Rafa Benitez.
The Argentine goalscorer netted three times on Sunday as the Partenopei beat Lazio 4-2 to reaffirm their third place in the table.
But after reports last week that the former Real Madrid man had had words with the Spanish tactician about being taken off, the forward has claimed that Benitez was always in his corner.
“I have never thought that the Coach didn’t have confidence in me,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“The truth is that this was an important game for us. I played like I always do, it’s just that the ball fell for me this time.
“I’m happy for myself and my teammates. It’s a victory that has regenerated us after the Parma game.”
