The Roma midfielder has played just five times for his national team since making his debut in 2009.

But with just over two months to go until the tournament in Brazil, the 25-year-old has claimed that he has done enough to get on the plane.

“I have played for all the national youth teams,” he told SportMagazine. “But I have not heard anything yet.

“I thought it was because I was playing for Cagliari – not a top club. But even in the Roma shirt things haven’t changed for me.

“I honestly think I deserve to go to the World Cup. I don’t bear any sort of grudge against [Coach Marc] Wilmots.

“I’m just sorry that I haven’t been able to show him my worth.

“Belgium has a strong group of midfielders, and we can’t all go the World Cup.”
