Alessandro Florenzi admits he was left “breathless” by his stoppage-time Roma winner against Torino.

The hometown hero came off the bench and smashed the finish across Daniele Padelli after running on to a Gervinho slide-rule pass at the 91st minute, securing a 2-1 victory.

“I feel so emotional, first of all because I had always dreamed of scoring a goal under the Curva Sud and in two years had never managed it!” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I am happy with the result and also for our other goalscorer. People talk so much about Roma needing a striker, but I think we have him in the squad and his name is Mattia Destro.

“I stay back after training to practice my shooting and maybe some fans get annoyed at me for missing, but I hope I repaid them tonight. This goal left me breathless.”

This game was meant to be Destro and Ciro Immobile’s appeal to get into the World Cup squad, but Florenzi did his chances no harm either.

“It is a dream for every player. I’m giving it my all, as are Mattia and Ciro. Now we’ll see and I hope the Italy Coach saw something tonight.”

Roma are now nine points clear of Napoli with a game in hand, but Florenzi isn’t celebrating yet.

“We mustn’t ease off by even a centimetre until it’s mathematically certain.”
