Francesco Totti thanked Morgan De Sanctis and dedicated Roma’s win over Udinese to Kevin Strootman.

The captain had been out of action with a thigh strain for over a month, but returned with a goal in tonight’s thrilling 3-2 result.

“Not playing hurt, but the important thing tonight was to win and maintain the pace. We have Napoli biting at our heels, but we got the crucial victory,” Totti told Sky Sport Italia.

“De Sanctis performed some great saves tonight. He has so much experience and directs the defence, so he is a goalkeeper who makes the difference.”

Totti celebrated by waving Strootman’s Number 6 jersey, as the Dutchman will undergo knee surgery tomorrow for an injury that has ruled him out of the World Cup.

“It’s as if he were here. He is a fundamental player and above all a great guy who settled in straight away.

“He’s part of this group and I hope he can recover as soon as possible. He’ll certainly be back stronger than ever.”
