Coach Luis Castro and striker Jackson Martinez felt Porto should’ve beaten Napoli by more than one goal.

“We played well and created plenty of chances,” Castro told O Jogo after a 1-0 Europa League result.

“We knew that Napoli would’ve come here trying to score, but we defended well. The fairest result would’ve been 2-0, considering all we did on the field.”

Porto also had a goal incorrectly ruled offside in the first half and the tactician, who was only promoted last week after Paulo Fonseca was sacked, had regrets.

“I don’t like to complain, but the result would’ve been different.”

Martinez scored the decider against a team he had been very close to joining over the summer.

“We had so many opportunities and Napoli caused us problems on the counter-attack. It is certainly an important victory, but we could’ve scored another goal.”

The second leg of this Round of 16 tie is next Thursday at the Stadio San Paolo.
