The Spaniard’s late header secured a 1-0 victory that puts the Partenopei within three points of Roma, even if the Giallorossi have a game in hand against Parma.

“It was too important for us and we gave 110 per cent with head and heart. We won with confidence and we go home happy tonight,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“It was an important goal and I hope that a more important one will arrive later on. The team worked very well this evening.

“I think we saw on the field a response to criticism about our character and determination.

“Of course we can target second place and that is our objective now. It was a very tough game, Roma are strong, but we won deservedly.”
