Italy Coach Cesare Prandelli said he'll either renew his contract with the Nazionale or take a break from football.

The former Fiorentina boss was speaking after returning to the peninsula following his side’s 1-0 defeat in Spain.

“Europe is moving quickly, and we need to keep up with the times,” Prandelli said to Ansa.

“We are talking about football, yet it seems we could be talking about politics or society as a whole.

“A national team and football are like the country they are representing.

“If we don’t have great players or large numbers of players, we need to overcome that with great ideas.”

Prandelli then discussed talk of him signing a new four year contract.

“We’ll see what happens with the Football Federation,” he said.

“We will discuss it together and then we will make a decision.

“But I will say that if we reach an agreement, then great. Otherwise I will stay quiet and take a break, that way we can remove the headache for everyone.

“The World Cup is too important for distractions.”
