“A bit of patience is needed, I know that everyone already wants to see me out there at my best.

“I too wish I could go out onto the pitch and score a brace but I still lack match fitness.

“The training sessions and the matches will be important for me to get minutes under my belt.

“I almost feel like a new signing again here as I have had so little time on the pitch with my teammates.”

Gomez was then asked about his team’s chances of Champions League football next season.

“It’s still not over,” he answered. “We need to try our best in the last 12 matches but we know it will not be easy.”
