La Roja play the Azzurri at Atletico Madrid’s Vicente Calderon next Wednesday, and after being named in his first squad since declaring for Spain, the striker has admitted it will be an honour to meet up with the squad.

“I am enormously pleased to meet up with the squad,” he told the football association’s official website.

“For me it’s going to be special for many reasons. It’ll be the first time in the Roja shirt, we’ll be playing at Vicente Calderon which is my ground and we will face an important opponent in Italy.

“The Azzurri seem like an ideal team to prepare for the World Cup. They’re certainly going to be fighting for the trophy.”
