Mauricio Pinilla has asserted that Cagliari’s dressing room is unconcerned with off-pitch matters and very much behind Coach Diego Lopez.

A week ago the Uruguayan was widely reported as on the verge of the sack, only for President Massimo Cellino to have a change of heart and then remove assistant Ivo Pulga instead.

The team responded with a creditable 1-1 draw at Inter on Sunday afternoon, which their goalscorer indicated was for their tactician.

“For us this was very important as we came into it from a run of bad luck. We have shown that there is a desire to do well and that we are a spirited team,” Pinilla has told Sky Sport Italia.

“This is a good point that we have won in Milan. We are a very united group and all the talk outside of the football should not concern us.

“We have to prove on the field that we are a team and work for the Coach by trying to repay his confidence.

“It is hard to explain why we have not yet won away from home this season. Unfortunately sometimes we have played well without collecting the points.

“We will work to find a win as soon as possible. We are defending well and have to improve in attack and score more goals.”
