“We must be grateful to the club, who did everything they could possibly do,” said Malesani after late deals for Paolo Cannavaro, Sergio Floccari, Ciro Polito and Matteo Brighi.

“The club had a precise logic in its transfer strategy. Now we must ensure the team approaches every game with the right sporting determination and aggression.

“Players often react strongly to a change of management, as they all want to prove themselves in the eyes of the new Coach.

“There is a culture of hard work at Sassuolo, for which I must credit the club and Di Francesco. I need these players to set aside personal and individual interests to think about the team, as we must all repay the club with safety.”

Malesani sat on the Hellas Verona bench from 2001 to 2003, so he knows their style well.

“Verona are humble and we must learn from them. Andrea Mandorlini has given his character to the team.”

Sassuolo squad for Verona: Pegolo, Polito, Pomini, Ariaudo, Bianco, Cannavaro, Longhi, Manfredini, Mendes, Pucino, Rosi, Ziegler, Biondini, Brighi, Chibsah, Marrone, Missiroli, Berardi, Farias, Floccari, Floro Flores, Sansone, Zaza
