Radja Nainggolan has thanked Cagliari and the club’s fans after his move to Roma was completed on Tuesday.

The Belgium international officially joined the Giallorossi yesterday evening in a four-year deal, but the midfielder has insisted that it was tough to leave the Isolani.

“For any Sardinian it is difficult to leave their island,” he told Cagliari’s official website. “And it is for me, now that I have become an adopted Sardinian.

“On the one hand I am happy because this move may be an important step in my football career. However, on the other hand I am sorry because I leave a place where I grew up as a man and as a footballer.

“I was convinced that we could do something important here, but unfortunately there were issues that were not shown to the fans that prevented the realisation of this project.

“I hope that this situation can be resolved soon because the city of Cagliari and the fans deserve much more than what they’ve received in the past three years.

“I will never stop thanking the chairman, the club, and the Coaches that I have had during these past seasons. Thanks to them I have become what I am today.

“And thanks to the fans who have always supported me. I always gave my best for this shirt. I’m sure you’ll do well without me.

“I will miss you. Cagliari, I love you.”
