Mattia Destro couldn’t contain his joy at scoring Roma’s winner over Fiorentina on his comeback. “I couldn’t take it anymore.”
The 23-year-old had not played since the European Under-21 Championship in June and his last goal for Roma was in May, but he came off the bench to secure a 2-1 victory.
“The only thing that mattered to me was getting back on to the field, as I really couldn’t take it anymore,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
“To score a goal as well was just wonderful. I was out for such a long time, but it’s all behind me now and I am back.
“I think we put in a great performance against an excellent Fiorentina side and were able to get the important win.”
Roma ended their run of four consecutive draws and remain unbeaten all season.
“We take our path and the important thing is that we never stop fighting.”
