Roma goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis has insisted that he will not come out of international retirement to play in the World Cup.

The shot-stopper left the Azzurri set-up in March, and the veteran has today claimed that he will not go back on his word.

“I left the Azzurri in March,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “I am a consistent person and I do not like it when my statement are manipulated in a particular way.

“Of course, the rumours about a possible return fill me with pride – but I did not play before because of Buffon.

“It was not easy to leave the national team, but I did it because I wanted to devote more time to my club side – Napoli before, Roma now.

“I hope the goalkeepers that are chosen to replace me do well.”
