Italy boss Cesare Prandelli believes the Mario Balotelli and Giuseppe Rossi strike partnership will work – once he’s given the chance to try them out.

The pair won’t feature against Germany tonight as the Fiorentina man has been struggling with illness this week.

They could be fielded together against Nigeria in London on Monday night though.

“Balotelli with Rossi is a tandem that I really like,” the former Atalanta and Parma tactician told RAI Sport.

“The two compliment each other and they don’t offer the opposition any points of reference,” added the Azzurri CT.

“In my mind Balotelli is a centre-forward, while Pepito is someone who can play behind him.

“Unfortunately I can’t try this experiment against Germany, but there will be time.”

Milan man Balotelli has scored 12 goals in 27 caps, while Rossi has netted six times in 28 appearances for the Azzurri.
