Former Lazio boss Edy Reja is the latest name to be paired with the Sampdoria job following the dismissal of Delio Rossi.
The latter was axed on Monday with the Marassi club stuck in the relegation zone after a problematic start to the season.
Serbia boss Sinisa Mihajlovic is the favourite to take over, but Zdenek Zeman has also been paired with the post.
Today, however, Il Secolo XIX claim Doria sporting director Carlo Osti met Reja in the city of Verona on Wednesday.
Reja apparently made himself available until June 2014 should the club decide to hire him in an attempt to survive the drop.
The 68-year-old hasn’t worked since he left Lazio in May 2012.
