“If the club thinks this team needs another Coach then they’ll let me know,” said Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri.
“The lads played well, created a great deal and didn’t allow many chances, which wasn’t easy,” he told Sky Sport Italia after a 0-0 draw at bottom of the table Chievo.
“We had Wednesday’s game in our legs and a situation that was difficult, but I could not have asked for more from my players.
“We needed to score, we didn’t score, but if we had then the view of the overall performance would’ve changed. It was a good performance.”
Allegri was asked whether this point is enough to save his job on the Milan bench.
“I cannot answer that. I am the Coach of Milan, so if the club thinks this team needs another Coach then they’ll let me know.
“I look at what happens on the field. The lads created several scoring opportunities against a Chievo side that was clammed up into its own half, so I could not have expected more.
“We earned just five points from our last five games, haven’t scored for two and we created more chances than we did against Fiorentina today. Now we have to keep working and hoping some of our players recover from injury.
“Alessandro Matri played very well, especially in the second half, and was unlucky. If a striker doesn’t score, then people have doubts, but he worked hard for the team and created chances.”
This week has been dominated by in-fighting at the club and reports Vice-President Adriano Galliani will leave.
“I was not referring to the club when I said there was a difficult situation. We are isolated and try to do our best. We created a situation where we could win in a difficult stadium, as don’t forget Roma struggled a great deal to beat Chievo.
“When everyone gives their all, you cannot ask for more in terms of effort. It’s true our passing wasn’t as good as it could’ve been in the final third, but that is all.”
